BURGLARIES
Is non-confrontational, are not random and occur when we are not home. Most burglaries take place in the daytime.This is the most common threat to our home.
HOME INVASION(A.K.A.HOME JACKING)
When robbers force their way into an occupied home, apartment building, or hotel room to commit a robbery. Usually consists of three or more assailants. They use restraining devices on the homeowners. The majority of all home invasions take place late at night.
ROBBERY
Theft from a person using physical force or fear. Mostly committed with aweapon, usually a handgun or a knife.
When an unknown person/persons rings your door bell and says, “I’m a Police officer,” and you did not call the police
(1) NEVER OPEN THE DOOR if they are not wearing a uniform ,and you do not see a marked police vehicle through a window.
(2) Ask to see their badge & pictured identification card. DO NOT ACCEPT ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER.(Never open the door).
(3) Call the Police Department. Verify an officer/detective is investigating a crime.
(4) Have the Police Agency verify, the person at your door, is actually the police officer or detective they portray themselves to be.
(5) If not have them send a police officer to your home.
(6) When the REAL POLICE OFFICER ARRIVES, a police dispatcher will call you and verify the officers arrival.
Most home invaders identifythemselves as either a police officer, or some other type of service worker, such as, a delivery person, or utilities employee.
Have all emergency phone numbers on hand at all times.
